A new study has been launched to identify how sexual offences and sexual harassment impacts men in Defence.
The project is being conducted by Griffith University and UNSW and is funded by Defence.
The researchers would like to interview current serving (or recently ex-serving) male ADF members who have experienced sexual offences or unwanted sexualised behaviours during their service.
Defence hopes that the information gathered in the study will improve services for men, improve Defence's response to disclosures from men, and refine prevention education.
The interviews will be conducted at a discrete, non-Defence, site in the participant's location. Participation is voluntary, anonymous, and confidential.
While Defence has funded the research, it is being conducted by the research team from the universities, and contact with participants is directly through the researchers.
The study received ethics approval from the Australian Defence Force Ethics Committee, Griffith University Ethics Committee, and the Department of Veterans' Affairs Human Research Ethics Committee.
