DEFGLIS Vice President Dr Joe Monteith's open letter on International Women's Day 2020.
Dear DEFGLIS members,
From the foundations of our association, we strive to set an example of quality leadership, advocacy and initiative for the entire Defence community in matters of inclusion and diversity. We are proud to have an excellent representation of gender on our Board of Directors, including almost half of which are exceptional women.
In celebrating International Women’s Day today, our President, Nathan White, and I wish to extend our gratitude to all women contributing to DEFGLIS and also those who are striving for a fairer and more inclusive Defence organisation whilst also contributing to the protection of our nation.
Whilst we aim for equal representation within our membership, ensuring women’s voices are heard is of the utmost importance in all aspects of our organisation. A special acknowledgment must go to our female Board Directors who consistently go above and beyond in their representative roles and are role models for us all. We are proud to tell their stories, recognise their families and celebrate their perspectives.
The International Women’s Day 2020 campaign theme is #EachforEqual – an equal world is an enabled world. Here at DEFGLIS we celebrate our achievements to date and look forward to welcoming more women into our organisation as well as the Defence community.
