DEFGLIS supports diversity and inclusion—learning about our differences, and finding effective ways to work with one another to produce the war fighting effects required of the ADF. While originally set up to provide support to LGBTI people in the Australian Defence Organisation, DEFGLIS strongly values inclusion for all people.
The tight knit cohesion required of combat units isn't achieved by hating, vilifying, abusing, degrading, humiliating—or more recently—online bullying of its people. That type of behaviour is counter productive; it harms capability and is never justified. It repels talented people from all walks of life from contributing to Australia's defence.
Defence needs diversity, which fosters innovation and unique thinking, enhancing military strategy.
Every person willing and capable of working as part of a team deserves a fair go in the ADF. We shouldn't have to protect ourselves from each other.
DEFGLIS aims to support personnel through professional networking, strengthen capability through inclusion, and educate personnel about sexual orientation, transgender and intersex issues.
We value inclusion, justice, integrity and community.
We encourage everyone in the Australian Defence Organisation to be themselves, look after and support each other.
