We are back again in 2017 to march with pride at this years Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras!

For a number of years DEFGLIS has attended the Sydney Mardi Gras to display our support to an evolving culture within the Australian Defence Force, as well as to support the LGBTI community throughout Australia.

Back for a second year, attendees grew to 280 from the Australian Defence Force and their families, along with NSW Police, Fire and Rescue, and Emergency Services, and the Sydney LGBTI community.

The Veterans Film Festival will hold the Australian premiere of The Camouflage Closet, a documentary about trauma and recovery among nine LGBTI veterans.

The film is a community-based project to bring awareness among medical providers, veterans, and the LGBTI communities, specifically uncovering each individuals unique experiences of serving under LGBTI-related military policies.

Australian Defence Force Chaplain (Wing Commander) Stephane Sarazin reflected on the Pride in Practice conference held last year, and what might be done about tensions between pride and religion.

Mr Anthony Veen-Brown is with Ambassadors and Bridge Builders International (ABBI) and presented a session called When Sexuality and Religion Collide.

Venn-Brown said that the current trend in Australia and most countries is an emerging gap between LGBTI people and those who have religious beliefs.
